the lyrics to this song grab my heart every time i hear it. it's so amazing to think that i can come to the cross of Jesus and be forgiven despite all of the things i've done and all of the many many times i have failed. God is willing to "abundantly pardon" (Isaiah 55:7). such amazing love, and such an amazing God. beneath the cross of Jesus, my unworthy soul is won.
Beneath the cross of Jesus
I find a place to stand,
and wonder at such mercy
that calls me as I am.
For hands that should discard me
hold wounds which tell me, "Come."
Beneath the cross of Jesus
my unworthy soul is won.
Beneath the cross of Jesus
His family is my own.
Once strangers chasing selfish dreams,
now one through grace alone.
How could I now dishonor
The ones that You have loved?
Beneath the cross of Jesus
My unworthy soul is won.
Beneath the cross of Jesus,
the path before the crown—
we follow in His footsteps
where promised hope is found.
How great the joy before us
to be His perfect bride;
Beneath the cross of Jesus
we will gladly live our lives.
well it's been a long time...

i have not blogged since february. a lot has happened since then, and i don't know if i will take the time to write about all of it right now, but there are a few things i have been learning lately that i need to write about.
first of all, God has been teaching me so much since this past summer and all semester. i am learning to rely on Him more and more each day, and realizing that even though i fail over and over and over again, even if it's with the same thing every day, God still loves me more than i can comprehend. He loves with an everlasting love, and it is more than amazing to know that He is always there for me no matter what. one of my very very good friends here at college, hannah, got dismissed from the school and had to go home in october because of some things that happened that i won't discuss right now. that was really hard for me for awhile, because i relied on her to vent about nursing classes (since we were both nursing majors), and just other things in general. she was my room leader last year, and we really bonded and became very close friends. when i found out she had to leave, i was mad at God for taking her away from me. but looking back on it now, even a month later, i realize that i have come to rely on God much much more, and not so much on other people. even though talking things out with people and telling your problems to people you care about is a wonderful thing, i know that at that point in my life, i was relying on others way more than i was relying on God. my prayer life and devotions were really struggling, and even though i'm not faultless at it now, i can honestly say that i have been casting all of my burdens on the Lord since that point.
another amazing thing that i learned this morning...
well i didn't really learn it for the first time, but it is one of those things that it's good to have a refresher about every once in awhile. i was reading in Romans 5 about God's grace and His sacrifice for me, a sinner, totally undeserving of even a second glance from Him. some verses that really stuck out to me as i was reading:
6-8: For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
18-20: Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.
and one more thing...
i started going to clinicals at the hospital two weeks ago, and this is quite a nerve wracking experience the first time. i had no idea how i was going to get through it, not knowing what to expect. i was extremely nervous my first day, and i was completely freaking out until i realized that my help comes from God. i cannot do anything in my own right. sure, i can try to do things myself, but without God's help i will fail. Psalm 121:2 says "my help comes from the Lord which made heaven and earth". the very God that created this universe is on MY side. He wants to help ME. He cares about MY needs and MY life. how amazing is that? i'm so glad i have a relationship with the God who is always there for me when i need Him, and when i think i don't and start going my own way. He is the God of all comfort and peace, and His steadfast love is never-ending.
i'm going to try to update this once a week now, probably on saturdays.

things i've learned in college so far...
2.12.2009
here are some things i've learned so far while being away at college. i've decided not to talk about anything that i've learned in my classes, since those things are either boring or kind of gross (unless you're me or the other nursing students).
- getting all of your homework done before midnight is a blessing and a rarity.
- coffee is a wonderful thing.
- frequent trips to wal-mart are a necessity.
- when deciding on an outfit to wear to classes, comfort comes before style.
- facebook is the biggest procrastination tool on the planet.
- blogging is second.
- roommates can be your best friends and your worst enemies. but 99.9% of the time it is the former. :]
- when doing a homework assignment that doesn't particularly interest you, ANYTHING can be a distraction.
- you don't realize how nice it is not to have to pay for every load of laundry you do until you actually have to.
- getting mail is fun. getting packages is better.
- figuring out when everyone else gets up to take showers is vital to getting ready and out the door on time.
- on days when you sleep in or have only a few classes, looking nice suddenly isn't that big of a deal.
- sleeping through classes is not always a bad thing.
- more work always seems to get done in the library than in your dorm room.
- necessary food: goldfish crackers, peanut butter, chocolate, and ramen noodles.
- the financial aid office is your friend.
- the business office is your enemy.
- you decide whether you're happy or not.
- sometimes relaxation is the best thing for you, especially when you're stressed.
- if you fail a test, life goes on. nobody's gonna remember it in 20 years.
- speech class is not as bad as it seems. once again, nobody's gonna remember it down the road. probably not even next week.
- sometimes the little things are the ones that mean the most.
- friendships and relationships are extremely important.
and last but not least,
- God is always there, even when it doesn't seem like He is. He knows your need before You ask, and is always willing to supply.

heat wave!!!
2.06.2009
so it officially reached 41 degrees here for the first time this year!! this is such a blessing, having been in Wisconsin all winter. i almost didn't want to wear my jacket but it was a little windy so i did. it seems as though spring is on its way. maybe mr. groundhog was wrong. it's supposed to rain tomorrow, which is also exciting because it's NOT snow! we still have about 5 inches accumulated on the ground from previous snowfalls, but it hasn't snowed since before Christmas break, so that's a huge blessing. :]
today i was showing my friend all of the wonderful add-ons that firefox has, because she still lives in the stone age and uses internet explorer (i don't understand those people). but anyway, i was searching and i found a really awesome cubs theme that i'm now using for my firefox for the duration of the baseball season! i'ts super exciting. i did some screenshots of it, because i know that my dad and grandpa will appreciate it. so mom and grandma, show it to them!! i'm pretty sure you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.
this one is a closeup of the navigation buttons.. there's a cub's symbol as the back button, the bear as the forward, the refresh button has a baseball in the middle, and the home button is a home plate! how clever is that?

this one is a shot of the whole top bar, with, of course, cubs symbols in the background. and where the loading thing usually is in the top right corner, it says "Go Cubs Go" while the page is loading. can't take a screenshot of that though :[

this last one i didn't catch until later, but the scrollbar has a baseball at the bottom of it! awesome!

random fact of the day: The most money ever paid for a cow in an auction was $1.3 million. talk about a cash cow! hahaha.

wordless tuesday..
2.03.2009
well it's almost wednesday, and i like the idea of doing a wordless wednesday post. the only problem is that my wednesdays are always so busy that i never get the chance to actually do it on wednesday. i have classes on wednesdays from 7:20 to 10:20, then a 50 minute break for lunch, and then i go until 3:20. i have about an hour and a half in my dorm from there, and then i go to dinner, and then half an hour after that we have to leave for the wednesday night service at church. so that doesn't leave much time for me to blog on wednesdays. and now that this is not a wordless post, i may as well say that my day today was rather uneventful.
i went to my anatomy lab this morning (we did each other's blood pressure, and that was really fun), and then went to chapel and found out that my speech class was canceled because my speech teacher was sick today. that's the only other class i had, so i went back to my room for an hour or so and then went to lunch.
and now here's the reason i wanted to do a not-so-wordless tuesday/wednesday post..

thought for the day "life is uncertain. eat dessert first."

it's another pointless holiday! yay!
2.02.2009
happy groundhog's day. whatever that means. i kind of feel bad for the poor little guy. i mean they do the darn ceremony so early in the morning that it probably interrupts his sleep, and if i were a groundhog, i don't think i would like that very much. well i know i wouldn't. i'm a college student and i don't like it. but anyway, so the mayor pulls the groundhog out of this fake hole or stump thing, and holds him up in the air for everyone to see (which would also be rather embarrassing i would think), and then if he "sees his shadow" then there will be 6 more weeks of winter. why do they even need the groundhog? i mean if it's sunny out on feb. 2nd, anybody's gonna be able to see their shadow. it doesn't matter if it's the groundhog or not. can't they tell that if nobody sees their shadow that the poor little groundhog guy isn't going to either? whoever made up this ridiculous holiday is full of it.
i just don't get some people.
anyway, now that my ranting is over, i'll get back to the nice side of this blog entry. oh wait, after i get back from dinner... okay so now i'm back. and i had a pretty good day and a good weekend. i got to go home for church on sunday and helped out with the youth super bowl party in the afternoon. there were around 20 teens there, so that was good to see. pastor andrew gave a really good message based on the words "super bowl".
friday night two of my roommates and my friend from down the hall went into the study room, did each other's makeup and hair, and took pictures for a couple hours. it was really fun. we listened to disney music and did random things around the room and took pictures. i'll have to do a photo post when i get back to my room, because right now i'm in one of the computer labs on campus.
please pray for my roommate jessica. she had to go to the health center this afternoon because she is not feeling well. i think she has the flu. it's been going around. she could be in there for a couple of days, depending on how bad she feels. i hope she feels better soon.
well i think i'm gonna stop this one for today. my friend and i are heading over to the coffee shop in town (tribeca) to get some coffee and work on some homework. i have a gen psych test on wednesday that i desperately need to study for, and i think the coffee will help. not sure how much studying we will get done being there together, but we'll see. haha.
thought for the day- "If not you, then who else?"
i just don't get some people.

so i definitely haven't blogged in a month and 10 days...

and i apologize. i always spell that wrong. it's only one p, not 2. anyway, i'm back at school now. thankfully the funds were provided, so that's something to praise the Lord about. i'm in my second semester of nursing school now, and it's going really well. tomorrow in my anatomy and physiology lab, we get to poke each other's fingers and find out what our blood types are. so that should be fun. and then thursday we're dissecting sheep hearts to look at the different parts of the heart. i'm starting to understand dr. liu better. he's my anatomy teacher, but he's chinese, so he's kind of hard to understand sometimes, but i'm getting used to it.
we had delta force tonight, which is a student led group of people who get together on monday nights on campus and pray specifically for missionaries. tonight dr. morales, the spanish teacher here at maranatha, came and presented a ministry in spain. it really spoke to my heart because i learned spanish in high school, and hearing him talk about all of the people who are catholic in spain, and how i know the language that could help minister to them was a challenge to my heart. i'm not planning on going to the mission field any time soon, but we'll see what the Lord has in store for me. they do a spanish speaking ministry at one of the churches here in town on wednesday nights, so i could possibly get involved in that if i wanted to.
but besides catching you all up on my life, i really wanted to post this song. we sang it in delta force tonight, and i've only heard it one time before, but it really spoke to my heart. it's called "Oh Great God". here goes..
O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore
I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace
Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me
this is how i want to live my life. i want to learn how to depend more on God and less on myself. God is so amazing, and i don't realize it sometimes, but i really couldn't do anything without Him. we have no power compared to what our amazing God can do. He is my source of joy and peace, and i want to live my life so that it glorifies Him.
sorry this is such a long post. songs always tend to do that, but i really wanted to post this one. i hope it's a blessing to someone.
i'll try to update more as the week goes on. not sure how busy i'm gonna be, but we'll try. :]
