things i've learned in college so far...

2.12.2009

here are some things i've learned so far while being away at college. i've decided not to talk about anything that i've learned in my classes, since those things are either boring or kind of gross (unless you're me or the other nursing students).

- getting all of your homework done before midnight is a blessing and a rarity.
- coffee is a wonderful thing.
- frequent trips to wal-mart are a necessity.
- when deciding on an outfit to wear to classes, comfort comes before style.
- facebook is the biggest procrastination tool on the planet.
- blogging is second.
- roommates can be your best friends and your worst enemies. but 99.9% of the time it is the former. :]
- when doing a homework assignment that doesn't particularly interest you, ANYTHING can be a distraction.
- you don't realize how nice it is not to have to pay for every load of laundry you do until you actually have to.
- getting mail is fun. getting packages is better.
- figuring out when everyone else gets up to take showers is vital to getting ready and out the door on time.
- on days when you sleep in or have only a few classes, looking nice suddenly isn't that big of a deal.
- sleeping through classes is not always a bad thing.
- more work always seems to get done in the library than in your dorm room.
- necessary food: goldfish crackers, peanut butter, chocolate, and ramen noodles.
- the financial aid office is your friend.
- the business office is your enemy.
- you decide whether you're happy or not.
- sometimes relaxation is the best thing for you, especially when you're stressed.
- if you fail a test, life goes on. nobody's gonna remember it in 20 years.
- speech class is not as bad as it seems. once again, nobody's gonna remember it down the road. probably not even next week.
- sometimes the little things are the ones that mean the most.
- friendships and relationships are extremely important.

and last but not least,

- God is always there, even when it doesn't seem like He is. He knows your need before You ask, and is always willing to supply.

heat wave!!!

2.06.2009

so it officially reached 41 degrees here for the first time this year!! this is such a blessing, having been in Wisconsin all winter. i almost didn't want to wear my jacket but it was a little windy so i did. it seems as though spring is on its way. maybe mr. groundhog was wrong. it's supposed to rain tomorrow, which is also exciting because it's NOT snow! we still have about 5 inches accumulated on the ground from previous snowfalls, but it hasn't snowed since before Christmas break, so that's a huge blessing. :]

today i was showing my friend all of the wonderful add-ons that firefox has, because she still lives in the stone age and uses internet explorer (i don't understand those people). but anyway, i was searching and i found a really awesome cubs theme that i'm now using for my firefox for the duration of the baseball season! i'ts super exciting. i did some screenshots of it, because i know that my dad and grandpa will appreciate it. so mom and grandma, show it to them!! i'm pretty sure you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

this one is a closeup of the navigation buttons.. there's a cub's symbol as the back button, the bear as the forward, the refresh button has a baseball in the middle, and the home button is a home plate! how clever is that?

this one is a shot of the whole top bar, with, of course, cubs symbols in the background. and where the loading thing usually is in the top right corner, it says "Go Cubs Go" while the page is loading. can't take a screenshot of that though :[

this last one i didn't catch until later, but the scrollbar has a baseball at the bottom of it! awesome!

random fact of the day: The most money ever paid for a cow in an auction was $1.3 million. talk about a cash cow! hahaha.

wordless tuesday..

2.03.2009

well it's almost wednesday, and i like the idea of doing a wordless wednesday post. the only problem is that my wednesdays are always so busy that i never get the chance to actually do it on wednesday. i have classes on wednesdays from 7:20 to 10:20, then a 50 minute break for lunch, and then i go until 3:20. i have about an hour and a half in my dorm from there, and then i go to dinner, and then half an hour after that we have to leave for the wednesday night service at church. so that doesn't leave much time for me to blog on wednesdays. and now that this is not a wordless post, i may as well say that my day today was rather uneventful.

i went to my anatomy lab this morning (we did each other's blood pressure, and that was really fun), and then went to chapel and found out that my speech class was canceled because my speech teacher was sick today. that's the only other class i had, so i went back to my room for an hour or so and then went to lunch.

and now here's the reason i wanted to do a not-so-wordless tuesday/wednesday post..

thought for the day "life is uncertain. eat dessert first."

it's another pointless holiday! yay!

2.02.2009

happy groundhog's day. whatever that means. i kind of feel bad for the poor little guy. i mean they do the darn ceremony so early in the morning that it probably interrupts his sleep, and if i were a groundhog, i don't think i would like that very much. well i know i wouldn't. i'm a college student and i don't like it. but anyway, so the mayor pulls the groundhog out of this fake hole or stump thing, and holds him up in the air for everyone to see (which would also be rather embarrassing i would think), and then if he "sees his shadow" then there will be 6 more weeks of winter. why do they even need the groundhog? i mean if it's sunny out on feb. 2nd, anybody's gonna be able to see their shadow. it doesn't matter if it's the groundhog or not. can't they tell that if nobody sees their shadow that the poor little groundhog guy isn't going to either? whoever made up this ridiculous holiday is full of it.

i just don't get some people.

anyway, now that my ranting is over, i'll get back to the nice side of this blog entry. oh wait, after i get back from dinner... okay so now i'm back. and i had a pretty good day and a good weekend. i got to go home for church on sunday and helped out with the youth super bowl party in the afternoon. there were around 20 teens there, so that was good to see. pastor andrew gave a really good message based on the words "super bowl".

friday night two of my roommates and my friend from down the hall went into the study room, did each other's makeup and hair, and took pictures for a couple hours. it was really fun. we listened to disney music and did random things around the room and took pictures. i'll have to do a photo post when i get back to my room, because right now i'm in one of the computer labs on campus.

please pray for my roommate jessica. she had to go to the health center this afternoon because she is not feeling well. i think she has the flu. it's been going around. she could be in there for a couple of days, depending on how bad she feels. i hope she feels better soon.

well i think i'm gonna stop this one for today. my friend and i are heading over to the coffee shop in town (tribeca) to get some coffee and work on some homework. i have a gen psych test on wednesday that i desperately need to study for, and i think the coffee will help. not sure how much studying we will get done being there together, but we'll see. haha.

thought for the day- "If not you, then who else?"
